A new beta of the W3C Markup Validator has been released, and the best news is that it supports the HTML 5 doctype, <!DOCTYPE html>
.
This doctype will trigger standards mode in all current browsers, so you can start using it straight away*, secure in the knowledge that you can still validate your code.
* Note: See the first comment, below.
The W3C’s validator doesn’t actually support (X)HTML5 just yet, it’s still in the testing process. Since the HTML5 specification and HTML5 conformance testing is quite different to previous W3C specs there are still a few bugs to be sorted out. I’d recommend that people keep using the Validator.nu service for the mean time.
